PARTICIPATORY CAPACITIES & VULNERABILITIES ASSESSMENT (PCVA) was the specific task given on us. Last February 5, 2012 (1st fieldwork, 2nd sem) we went to Montalban Rizal, where we learned so maaaaannnyy things about the place. While last February 12, 2012 (2nd fieldwork, 2nd sem) we went to Sitio Galilee at Antipolo to teach DRM.
During the 1st semester, we had the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) program taught by our facilitator, Mr. Aboboto. We were given the knowledge on how to be prepared/handle things in case of emergencies.
In our last 2 fieldworks, I felt really honored to share everything that I’ve learned during the previous activities that we had. In Montalban Rizal, we met Ate Liza which really gave a strong impression to me. She’s so kind! A strong woman! My groupmate Chesca and I became close to her. She told us so much kwentos about their place. That it is vulnerable to flood especially to danger because they’re located almost beside the fault line. I even wondered what if I was on her shoes? So in the end, I thought of helping them as much as I could. Our 2nd and last fieldwork was held at Sitio Galilee. OMG!!! I knew that Antipolo was like a mountain. And I didn’t even know that we were really gonna go up to it. So yeah, we were still divided into 5 groups. We taught the parents everything we knew about DRM. First, we demonstrated to them the things that they should have and do. And then we told them to do it themselves. I felt so happy to see them seriously listening to us and I can see in their faces that they really really want to learn. Although some were “pasaway”, I’m still thankful that the program was a success.
I have learned through these activities.. that I am lucky enough to have a good life and that I need to think of others as well as my well being, and I must also share all my knowledge to others. This is because, the feeling you get from helping others is very satisfying especially in areas that the government doesn’t necessarily spends time on. I am so thankful to be an NSTP Thomasian student because this helped me boost my confidence and taught me to give everything I could for those who can’t provide for themselves.
Now that culminating activity is near, as an NSTP student, I will never forget all the experiences that I’ve gained. I will forever cherish this knowledge and apply it to my daily activities.

After watching the documentary film, I felt extremely privileged. When I was still young (at around the children in the film’s age) I was playing with my cousins, I got whatever I wanted and I started education at around 3 yrs old whereas some people couldn’t afford to have it. I felt really bad for the children because like me, they should be able to enjoy their younger years but they can’t. THIS IS IN NO WAY RIGHT.
The specific rights of the children that were violated: the right to survive, survival and development and the right to education, leisure, culture and the arts,
because at their current age, they should’ve started education. They also have a need to survive which they shouldn’t have to seek for themselves; instead it should be the parent’s job. For me, as I’m a very sympathetic person, whenever I see something like this, I try to help as much as I could. And especially now that I’m a Thomasian NSTP student, it is just mandatory for me to attend all fieldwork/activities as it will be a chance for me to help these children. It is important to protect and respect the rights of the children because we are all God’s creation and we are all equal and deserve the same. There shouldn’t be anyone who can be treated any less than us. So in the future, if ever we experience something similar, we need to take some action in order to help. :)
